Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
