Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official said the incident left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
