The president-elect of the prestigious debating society has been removed from his position after failing a no-confidence vote that came after his controversial online comments about the conservative activist.

The vote against the student leader achieved the necessary super-majority to remove him from office, according to an statement from the organization.

Disputed Comments

The controversy began after the student reportedly shared messages on online platforms that seemed to welcome the killing of the American conservative figure, who was fatally shot while speaking at a university in Utah.

According to reports, one social media message reportedly read "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an elongated version of the phrase 'lol'.

The student leader is also reported to have posted in a WhatsApp chat with fellow students appearing to express approval of the event.

Vote Outcome

The no-confidence motion was conducted over the weekend, with results revealed on this week.

Official notices indicated that over twelve hundred votes were cast in favor of removal, while 501 were opposed the motion.

The announcement stated that the president-elect was considered to have resigned in accordance with the society's regulations.

Election Controversies

Proceedings were informally suspended early on Monday after the election official was reportedly subjected to "interference, threats, and inappropriate behavior" from several representatives.

In a statement, the student claimed that the count had been halted because election administrators believed "no valid outcome could be reached as a result of process errors".

His statement categorically refuted that any person acting for the student had participated in intimidating or disruptive behavior.

Continuing Controversy

The student stated that significant concerns had been referred to the disciplinary committee and that he remained president-elect.

His statement added that he was "proud and thankful to have the backing of well in excess of a majority of students at Oxford" who voted to have a "safe election and oppose efforts to undermine the electoral process".

Critics have argued that any failure to remove him would "signal to the world that the Oxford Union has chosen ideology over integrity".

External Responses

On recently, Kirk's former chief of staff read out an public message to the society on a related program podcast.

The letter accused the union of becoming a place where "student leaders openly applaud the killing of a ideological rival".

The communication warned that if the student were to keep his position, Kirk's allies would "directly reach out to every American political speaker who has ever graced the union's chamber and urge them never again to lend their name".

The Oxford Union had previously condemned Mr Abaraonye's remarks after Kirk's death and stated that concerns submitted about him had been forwarded for disciplinary proceedings.

The student leader had been one of multiple members to discuss with Kirk at the union in spring.
