The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that Pluribus would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to force fed something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by public opinion, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
