President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president informed journalists. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Mourners came together over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support public safety in DC.
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the government to pause refugee claims and cease granting entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with excellence, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
